What Is Acupressure?Acupressure is an ancient Indian therapy in which specific points on the hands, feet, ears, face, neck, back and other parts of the body are subjected to, alternately applying and releasing, moderate pressure for some duration.
The points relating to any disease or ailment in a body will experience pain in varying intensity from low to extreme depending upon the intensity of the disease or ill health of the organ to which the painful point corresponds. About Acupressure Points And Applying PressureIt is believed that the hands and feet have a high concentration of the nerve endings of various organs and organ systems and therefore they are very sensitive to application of pressure.
Pressure on an affected point is applied for a duration of half a minute to two minutes. In case there a more points for the same disease the pressure can be applied to all the points. Pressure that is applied should be moderate in intensity, for the appropriate duration and keeping in view the health and age of the one receiving acupressure. It goes without saying that a low intensity pressure and a shorter duration of pressure would be advisable for someone who is old and weak as compared to one who is young and strong. In a totally healthy body, application of pressure on the various points will not result in pain being experienced or manifested. This will be because all the organs are healthy and in harmony. It could also be that one is not applying pressure at the exact spot. In such a case, it is advised to move around the point and if still no pain is experienced it can be assumed that the organ or organ system related to that point is healthy.
